New Mexico EMNRD-Forestry Division anticipates advertising for the following position (job) via the New Mexico State Personnel Office on July 26, 2008.

Position Title:          Advance Forester

 

Working Title:          Land Conservation Programs Specialist

 

Location:                  Santa Fe, New Mexico

 

Salary: Min: $14.68/hr.  Max: $26.11/hr.

 

Position Description:  This position will coordinate and implement all aspects of the Land Conservation Incentives Act tax credit program by assisting applicants, reviewing applications, obtaining appraisal reviews, preparing hearings of the Natural Lands Protection Committee, developing forms and guidelines, and keeping program records. Provides assistance to the manager of the Forest Legacy Program and Natural Lands Protection Act with the acquisition of forest conservation easements and ecologically unique lands by contracting non-profit partners and completing other due diligence tasks for real estate conveyance. Position requires strong organizational, analytical skills, decision-making skills, effective writing skills and the ability to work well with the public.

 

Qualifications Required: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in forest management, forest science, environmental science, range science, biology, wildlife biology, natural resources, or land use planning.  Three years experience in land conservation planning or land management or acquisition and protection of land and conservation easements including one year of program management or real estate transactions. Four additional years experience in these fields may substitute for college degree.

 

Agency Description:  The Forestry Division (Division) works with private landowners and communities to promote healthy, sustainable forests and protect ecolosystems and watersheds in New Mexico.  The Division has 71 dedicated employees, located in field offices throughout the state as well as the main office in Santa Fe, NM.  Our “Service Foresters” provide forest and watershed management programs and expertise to cooperators. The Division is responsible for wildland fire suppression, conservation of endangered plant species and conservation law enforcement on state and private lands. The Division also administers a land conservation tax credit program and programs to acquire conservation easements and natural lands.
