More about what we do

Who we are…

The Colorado Coalition of Land Trusts (CCLT) is a network of more than fifty member organizations and hundreds of concerned citizens.  Conservation leaders from across the state formed CCLT in 1991 to help build strong conservation organizations and increase opportunities for land and water conservation.

Today, CCLT delivers critical services, including conservation trainings, updates, and public relations.  CCLT’s conferences and publications reach thousands of people throughout the state who are involved in the preservation of Colorado’s open space heritage.

CCLT also provides important leadership at the state capitol and beyond.  For more than a decade, CCLT has successfully provided a common voice at the legislature, where it has been instrumental in the passage of important conservation-related legislation, including the Colorado conservation easement tax credit program.

Did you know...

The mission of CCLT is to promote and support land conservation excellence in Colorado through:

  • Leadership,
  • Advocacy,
  • Education, and
  • Outreach?

Together, members of CCLT have preserved more than 2 million acres of Colorado’s most cherished lands, including:

  • Family Farms and Ranches,
  • Wildlife Habitat,
  • Popular Trails and Recreational Areas, and Scenic Vistas that have made Colorado famous?

Colorado is one of the most effective states in the country when it comes to conservation activity?  (Only two other states rank higher in the amount of land protected by conservation easements.)

According to the Colorado Conservation Trust, another 2 million acres are at risk and must be protected to maintain our western way of life.?

How you can help…

Because it is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, CCLT depends on a diverse funding base to fulfill its important mission.  We are supported by membership dues, foundation grants, and sponsors.  But most importantly, we depend on the generosity of individuals and businesses to support out work.  Members can join at one of two levels:

1.  Associate Membership: At this level, individuals, businesses and organizations  make charitable contributions that may be tax deductible and have all the benefits of membership with the exception of voting rights.

2.  Organizational Membership: Voting membership is open to any nonprofit land trust and local government open space program whose purpose is to preserve land and water resources through conservation transactions.  Organizational Members retain voting rights for CCLT's Board of Directors and pay annual dues.
