In October La Plata Open Space completed a third conservation easement over open space in Horse Gulch just east of the Durango City limits. The latest easement, over 367 acres that the City purchased from the Fort Lewis College Board of Trustees, brings the amount of permanently protected land in Horse Gulch to more than 700 acres.
The Horse Gulch Open Space Area, known as "Durango's Central Park," now includes more than 1,000 acres of natural lands with an extensive trail system for public recreation, and is easily accessible to Durango residents and visitors. It was officially dedicated in a ceremony on November 5th.
